Four Lovecraft-flavored factions and a Madness mechanic for the card-smashing mash-up game.
Who it's for
You already play Smash Up and like cosmic-horror jokes, or you want to mash weird factions together. Works best with three or four players who enjoy trading blows.
Not for you ifβ¦
You dislike take-that cards that mess with your plans, or you do not own any Smash Up cards yet and want one single box with everything.
Vibe's take
Silly and combative: you play creatures onto shared bases, mess with opponents' plans and cash in when the base breaks. Madness adds a greedy temptation, and the jokes do not stop. Rounds are fast and loud.
Smash Up: The Obligatory Cthulhu Set adds four tentacled factions to the mash-up card game where you shuffle two factions into one deck and fight over bases. Here you get crazy cultists, fishy Innsmouth locals, Elder Things and the Fightin' Cephalopods from Miskatonic University. The new twist is Madness: cards that give you power but cost you something, so pushing your luck with the dark stuff is part of the plan. If you already own other Smash Up sets, these factions mix in freely, and the combos get silly fast. Expect puns, card-slinging and at least one friend who is far too happy about the cult.
