Race to the other side of the board, and slow down your rival with walls that bend their path.
Who it's for
Two people, a short break and a wish for a real duel that is easy to see on the board. A good pick for parents and kids around eight who want a fair match.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want a lively group game or any luck. It is a quiet counting battle, best with two.
Vibe's take
Tight, tense and surprisingly mean for such a minimal game. Every wall is a small gamble: block now, or save it for the moment it hurts most.
Quoridor looks like a simple race: get your pawn to the opposite edge of the board before your opponent does. The trick is what you do on your turn. You can step forward, or you can place a wall that blocks a path. Walls are limited, and you may never seal the other player in completely, so you hinder rather than imprison. The game is quick, the rules fit in a minute, and the decisions bite surprisingly hard: is it time to run, or to make your rival take a long detour? A modern abstract classic that works for ages from eight, and a pleasant duel for two.
