Bring pieces onto the board one push at a time, line up four, and take your opponent's stones out.
Who it's for
You like abstract two-player games such as Hive or chess and want a modern one with a unique rhythm. Good for a long, quiet evening with one rival.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want a lively or social game. It is a silent thinking duel for two, with no luck to blame.
Vibe's take
Slow, thoughtful and a bit chess-like. Every push shuffles a whole line, so you plan two or three moves ahead and still get surprised.
GIPF is a two-player abstract game on a hexagonal board where you add one piece per turn by pushing it in from the edge, shoving the pieces in that line along. Make four in a row and you remove your line, plus any enemy pieces stuck on its end. Because pieces constantly slide, the board never settles, and a threat you thought was safe can vanish after one push. The first player who can no longer bring a piece into play loses. It is the first game in the GIPF project, a family of connected abstracts by one designer, and it rewards patient, careful thinking over quick reactions.
