Mice race across a tiny board while kids build walls that slow everyone, including themselves.
Who it's for
You want a first abstract strategy game for a child from six, with simple rules and room to grow. Also nice for adults who want an easy way into Quoridor.
Not for you ifβ¦
You and your partner already play the full Quoridor and want depth. This is the small version, and experienced players will outgrow it fast.
Vibe's take
Gentle but surprisingly thoughtful. Each turn is one small choice, and kids quickly find the trick of blocking without trapping themselves.
Quoridor Junior is the pocket-sized version of the abstract classic, with mice instead of pawns and a 7x7 board instead of 9x9. Each player has a mouse that needs to reach the opposite side. On your turn, you either move one space or place a blocker to delay somebody. Here is the sneaky bit: the maze you build slows everyone, including your own mouse, so kids learn very fast to think a couple of moves ahead. A game takes about ten minutes, it is made for ages six and up, and adults will find it a gentle introduction to planning ahead without ever using the word strategy. If you already own the full Quoridor, this is the lighter sibling for a quick round with a child, not for a serious duel.
