Munchkin as a board game: a growing dungeon, loot, and friends you can feed to monsters.
Who it's for
You and a group that loves Munchkin's cardboard satire and wants it with a map, a dungeon and more room for betrayal. Best with four people and a free evening.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want a tight, balanced game or dislike being targeted. Plan on three hours, and expect at least one friendship to wobble.
Vibe's take
Loud, jokey and gloriously unfair, with alliances that last exactly until they stop paying off. Banter does more work than tactics, and the long runtime rewards groups who enjoy the theatre of it.
Munchkin Quest takes the card game's dungeon-crawl parody and spreads it across a board. The dungeon is built from tiles: you never know what lies behind a door until you open it, and then another room goes down. Fight monsters for treasure and levels, or sling them at the person next to you. You can cooperate with the whole table, pair up with a partner, or go it alone, whichever lets you stab a friend at the most profitable moment. Reach Level 10 and then escape alive to win. It runs about three hours, and it is as much a game of banter and betrayal as of tactics.
