Kick down the door, kill the monster, and backstab your friends to reach level 10.
Who it's for
You enjoy goofy fantasy humor and a table of friends who like to scheme and tease each other. Works best with four or five who do not take losing too hard.
Not for you ifβ¦
You dislike take-that play or long finales. Friendly teasing turns to real grumbling when everyone is blocking the leader, and some games just keep going.
Vibe's take
Loud, nasty, and cheerful. Alliances form and collapse in seconds, and the last few levels turn into a scrum of players ganging up on whoever is ahead.
Munchkin is the card game where you go down into the dungeon, kick open doors, kill monsters, and steal your friends' loot. Reach level 10 first and you win. There is no roleplaying, just cards full of puns: Horny Helmet, Boots of Butt-Kicking, a Potted Plant for a monster. You gather gear, pick class and race, and, in the best part, you can help or sabotage anyone else's fight by adding monsters or backstabbing at the right second. It is silly, loud, and a little nasty, so expect arguments and cackling. Fun with the right crowd, though the endgame can drag when everyone keeps blocking the winner.
