Tetris-like pieces, corners only: fill the board before your opponent boxes you in.
Who it's for
You want a pure abstract duel with bright pieces and rules you can explain in a minute. A good choice for a pair of players of different ages.
Not for you ifβ¦
You like theme, story or luck. It is an abstract puzzle, and a stronger spatial thinker tends to win.
Vibe's take
Quiet, spatial and slightly aggressive. You spend your time hunting for corners, and the board slowly shrinks until someone gets stuck.
Blokus Duo is the two-player version of the abstract strategy game Blokus, with the same colorful, Tetris-shaped pieces on a smaller board. Each player has a full set of 21 pieces and tries to place as many as possible. The one rule that makes it a puzzle: a new piece must touch at least one of your own pieces at a corner, never along an edge. Your pieces grow outward in a diagonal chain while you elbow into your opponent's space and cut off their exits. There are no cards, no dice and no luck, only spatial thinking and the nagging feeling that the last piece you did not place was the best one. It suits couples, parents and kids, and anyone who likes a quiet duel with colorful plastic.
