Wizards in a shifting maze steal treasure and blast each other with cards.
Who it's for
You like take-that fights with a fantasy grin and people who laugh when their plan gets smashed. Best with a full table of four.
Not for you ifβ¦
You dislike being targeted or want a calm, plan-it-out game. Most turns end with someone cursing.
Vibe's take
Loud, mean and funny: spells fly across the table, plans get ruined mid-turn, and you cannot be sure what is coming until it hits.
Wiz-War drops two to four wizards into an underground maze and lets them go at each other with everything in the spell book. You win by stealing rivals' treasures and dragging them back to your base, or by blasting other wizards for points. The maze shifts as walls get moved, and the cards are the funny kind: fireballs, werewolves, psychic storms. Tom Jolly's 1983 classic got a tidied-up eighth edition that plays faster and spells out card effects more clearly. It is chaotic, mean and meant to be.
