Place bets on seven horses, roll the die, and decide whom to push over the line.
Who it's for
You want a lively party-ish racing game with a little betting maths, ideal for a table of five or six that enjoys cheering. Horse racing fans will smile at the details.
Not for you ifβ¦
You dislike dice-driven outcomes or find betting themes tedious. Luck is real, and a fancy plan can be wrecked by one bad roll.
Vibe's take
Rowdy and shouty, with the table cheering for horses like a real racetrack. Under the noise sits a tidy bit of risk balancing, because your bets rarely pull in the same direction.
Winner's Circle is a horse race by Reiner Knizia where you do not just watch, you own pieces of the action. Seven horses of differing strength run three races. Before each one, players place bets on several of the seven horses. Then you roll a die and choose which horse moves, from those that have not moved yet this turn. The die faces match symbols on the horse cards, so each roll limits and enables certain runners. Weak horses can still surge and strong ones can stall. Your bets pull in different directions, which means you cheer for one horse, nudge another, and tactically help an opponent whose horse you also backed. It is a loud, jokey game with real maths hiding underneath.
