Who it's for

You like light betting and bluffing games with a friendly look, or you want something family-sized that plays in about twenty minutes.

Not for you if…

You want a lot of control over the result. Hidden bets and card luck make it more guessing than planning.

Vibe's take

Light and twisty: you push your own animals forward but also try not to reveal which ones you backed. The race is easy to follow, so people at the table cheer for animals instead of calculating.

About this game

Five animals race, and you are betting on who gets across the finish line first. At the start of each race, you secretly pick up to two of five animals: turtle, rabbit, lamb, wolf and fox. You also get one more animal assigned by chance, then you play a card face down as another bet. After that, everyone takes turns laying down one to four cards of the same animal to push them forward, and the animals move once enough cards are down. Fables suggest the slow one has a chance, and the game agrees, which keeps it cheerful and hard to predict. A good fit for a small group around a table.
