Space Marines storm a derelict ship against an alien overlord in a 1990 classic.
Who it's for
You want a nostalgic dungeon-crawl-in-space for a group of four, or you have fond memories of HeroQuest. Great for kids and adults who enjoy shooting aliens with plastic miniatures.
Not for you ifβ¦
You look for modern streamlined design or a lot of tactical depth. Luck of the dice dominates, and the game takes up an entire table and a couple of hours.
Vibe's take
Pulpy, loud, and very dice-heavy. The Alien Player gets a villain's grin, while the marines huddle and curse as chits reveal yet another monster.
Space Crusade is a 1990 team-up between Milton Bradley and Games Workshop, and it feels like HeroQuest set on a derelict starship. One player takes the aliens, a swarm of nasty creatures hidden until they show up. The others command Space Marines on modular boards, working through missions from the Mission Manual. Marines advance through corridors, shoot with dice, and try to hit the objective before the aliens grind them down. Each mission asks for something different, so no two games look the same. Plastic miniatures and a corridor full of mystery chits make it very much a product of its era, and a fun one for a Saturday afternoon.
