Fight through a demon-infested Mars base as a squad of Marines, or play the invaders and hunt them.
Who it's for
You know the video game or like scenario-based miniature games where a team faces a clever opponent, and you can set aside a long evening.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want a light or short game, or you dislike dice-driven combat. It takes time to set up and play.
Vibe's take
Tense and atmospheric, with the Marines pushing through dark corridors and the invading player gleefully springing ambushes. The dice make fights swingy.
Demons have broken through a dimensional gateway at the Union Aerospace Corporation's Mars base, and a squad of Marines has been sent in to deal with it. In Doom: The Boardgame, one player takes the side of the invaders, controlling the demons, while the others are the Marines trying to survive and fight through the base. The board is modular, so each mission looks different, and the tension comes from marines moving through dark corridors, finding weapons, and rolling dice when something nasty jumps out. It is an adaptation of the video game, with miniatures and plenty of fan service. Be ready for a long, atmospheric session with loud sound effects supplied by your own mouth.
