A cooperative jungle race where kids and grown-ups build paths together to beat the pirates to the treasure.
Who it's for
You have a child of four or five and want a first cooperative board game that also gives you something to think about. Great when the adults need a game that does not end in tears.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want real challenge for older kids or adults. The puzzle is gentle by design, and teenagers will feel it is over before it started.
Vibe's take
Calm, chatty and team-based: you flip a tile, argue cheerfully about where it fits, and watch the pirates creep closer. Losing never feels bad because everyone loses together.
Karuba Junior is the kids' jungle edition of Karuba, made for children from about four. Together you flip path tiles and lay them to open routes so three little adventurers can reach their treasures before the pirates raid the island. Tigers sit on some paths and block the way, so the team has to think one tile ahead. Everyone wins or loses together, which takes the sting out of a lost round for small players. A game takes around ten minutes, so a rematch is usually demanded before the box is closed. For the adults at the table it is a gentle puzzle with a ticking clock, nothing that will melt your brain.
