Five in a row, but your opponent can snatch your pairs off the board.
Who it's for
You like abstract duels with simple rules and deep tactics, or you want something to play with a partner over coffee. Two players is the sweet spot.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want theme, luck, or a relaxed chat game. Strong opponents punish loose play quickly, and a mistake in the first ten moves can decide everything.
Vibe's take
Quiet and sharp, like a tense chess endgame played in glass. Every stone placed is both an attack and an invitation, and the board changes shape when a capture lands.
Pente is five-in-a-row with teeth. You place glass stones on a Go-sized grid, trying to line up five of your color. The twist is capturing: sandwich exactly two enemy stones between yours and they are removed from the board. So you are never just building a line, you are also avoiding leaving pairs open to a snatch, and sometimes deliberately baiting one. You can win by five in a row or by capturing five pairs, which keeps both players looking in two directions at once. The rules fit on a card, but strong players see traps many moves deep. Larger sets also allow up to four or six players.
