Tetris-shaped tiles, real Manhattan landmarks and a quiet race to dominate the skyline.
Who it's for
You enjoy tidy tile-laying and area majority with a clear theme. Ideal at four players for a medium-weight evening.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want heavy strategy or high drama. The tension is subtle and the box mostly rewards careful spatial thinking.
Vibe's take
Calm but sharp. You fit pieces into a tightening board, hunting for spots that give bonuses while quietly wrecking your neighbour's plan. Looks gentle, feels competitive.
New York 1901 sends you to Lower Manhattan's Financial District to put up skyscrapers before your rivals grab the best blocks. On your turn you take location cards from a shared display, then use two or three of them to lay Tetris-shaped building tiles on the map. First you build bronze-level buildings; later you swap them for silver and gold ones that reach higher and earn more. Four famous towers, including the Singer and the Woolworth, can become the crown jewel of your skyline. It's a handsome, fairly calm tile-placement game with a sharp area-majority edge, where the real puzzle is timing which cards you leave on the display for the next player.
