Every lantern tile you place gives your rivals cards too, so playing nice is part of the strategy.

Vibe's take
calm, tactical, elegant, non-confrontational, quietly competitive
Lanterns: The Harvest Festival looks gentle and looks like it, all soft colors and floating lights, but every tile you place hands your opponents cards too, so generosity and self-interest are tangled together the whole game. Lay a tile and everyone at the table, including you, collects lantern cards matching whichever color faces them, then cash sets of those cards in for honor: pairs, full rainbows, whatever combination you've been quietly building toward. There's no direct conflict, just careful reading of what everyone actually needs and a genuinely pretty board by the end. A calm, thinky tile game that's much sharper than its cozy theme lets on.
