Lost Cities opened up to a full table, where knowing when to stop pushing a path is the whole art of it.
Who it's for
Fans of Lost Cities and elegant push-your-luck games who want a quick, sharp strategy game for a full table.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want direct player conflict, because Keltis stays a mostly solitaire-parallel race with minimal interaction between players.
Vibe's take
elegant, tense, quick, calculating, satisfying
Keltis takes the elegant push-your-luck tension of Lost Cities and opens it up to a full table, sending everyone's colored stones down five paths at once. Play a stone lower than the last one down a path, or start fresh with a higher value, and watch the risk build as you decide when to lock in points versus when to keep gambling on a bigger finish. Bonus tiles reward players who commit early to a path, and knowing when to abandon a losing route versus double down is the whole game in miniature. Simple to teach, quick to play, and it earned the Spiel des Jahres for a reason: it is Knizia at his cleanest.
