Survive a deadly chain of dungeon chapters with dice, items and a group of fellow captives.
Who it's for
You want a quick co-op dungeon game with atmosphere and a bit of push-your-luck, without a huge box. Great for solo evenings or a small group that likes tough odds.
Not for you ifβ¦
You dislike dice-driven luck or you want a long campaign. Also not for young kids, since the tone is grim and the age rating is 14+.
Vibe's take
Grim, quick and tense. Each chapter is a small crisis, and you plot together while hoping the dice behave. Wins feel earned, and losses lead straight to another attempt with a different prisoner.
Escape the Dark Castle drops you into a dungeon as a wrongfully imprisoned prisoner with one goal: get out alive. Each chapter card shows a horror, trap or challenge, and you and your fellow captives tackle it using custom character dice and item cards. The dice show Might, Cunning and Wisdom, and you decide who rolls what, who takes the hit and when to risk something shiny. Characters like the Abbot and the Tailor each bring different strengths. The art has a grim retro look and the game is quick to set up, so you can attempt escape after escape. It works solo or with up to four, and death is a real possibility.
