Build the first great city of Catan together, then outscore the people helping you.
Who it's for
You enjoy Catan but want a version with more planning and a clearer city on the table. A good fit for two to four players who like building more than blocking.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want fast play or a negotiation-heavy Catan feel. This is a more structured, quieter game, and the building can feel calculating.
Vibe's take
Thoughtful and constructive, with a steady build-up on a shared grid. Dice add some drama, but most of what you do is deliberate.
Elasund: The First City is the second game in the Catan Adventures series, after Candamir, and it takes the Catan world into the city itself. Based on Rebecca GablΓ©'s Catan novel, it asks two to four players to compete and, in places, cooperate to build the premier city on the island. You place buildings on a growing grid, gather resource cards in sets, wall off districts, and let the dice decide who gets what. The result is a middleweight build-and-trade game for people who like Catan but want more direct control over what they do each turn. Few surprises beyond the dice, and a satisfying sense of watching a city take shape. It plays in about an hour and a half.
