Steer rival peoples through a thousand years of British invasions, from the Romans to the Normans.
Who it's for
You are a history fan who enjoys wargames and a long session with three to five friends. Good for the what-if storyteller in you.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want a short game or one that does not require learning who arrives when. The scale is big.
Vibe's take
Sweeping, historical and long, with a rhythm of arrivals and clashes. Players know what is coming next, which makes the planning part of the fun.
A thousand years of invasions in one box. The game opens with the Romans landing in 43 AD and rolls on through Angles, Saxons, Picts, Norsemen, Scots, and Irish, all the way to the Norman invasion of 1066. You steer several peoples at once, scoring for how each of them does, and fights are settled by dice. The rules gently discourage historically silly moves, but they leave room for what-if stories: what if Boudicca's revolt had succeeded? What if the Saxon invasions had been repelled? It's heavy and long, with a map that rewards remembering who comes next, and it's best with players who enjoy history in motion.
