A chariot race around the Circus Maximus where cards, not dice, decide how far you get.
Who it's for
You like racing games like Formula D or Detroit-Cleveland Grand Prix but want something lighter and ancient-themed. Works nicely with four to six.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want deep strategy or a modern rules set. It is a 1989 racer where luck of the draw and traffic matter a lot.
Vibe's take
Racing with a puzzle in it: every card is a small decision about speed, lane and who gets stuck behind whom. Light, quick and noisy around the table when someone cuts you off.
Ave Caesar sends you around the Circus Maximus in a chariot race, played with a deck of numbered cards instead of dice. You lay a card, move that many spaces, and try not to get boxed in, because the track has bottlenecks and lane changes are restricted. Taking the long way around corners burns movement you might need at the finish. Everyone must run three laps and stop to hail Caesar before crossing the line, a bit like a pit stop. Think of a Formula 1 game with togas: light, quick, and full of tiny tactical squeezes. First chariot over the line after three laps wins.
