Scrabble where you can stack letters on top of old words to rewrite them.
Who it's for
You like Scrabble but dislike its letter-value memorization and want a more tactical, less cutthroat word game. Best with two.
Not for you ifβ¦
Word games stress you or you play in a language where you are not confident. Spelling matters, and stacking makes some boards hard to read.
Vibe's take
Thoughtful and tidy. Instead of racing for a rare tile, you hunt for the single letter that turns your opponent's neat word into your better one.
Upwords is Scrabble with a third dimension. You place letter tiles on a grid to form words, but you may also stack new letters on top of ones already played, up to five high, turning LATE into CATER or BELATED right under your opponent's nose. Scoring is simpler than Scrabble: no letter values, you count the tiles in a word, and stacked letters make it worth more. That makes defence more important too, because covering a juicy letter can wreck a plan. It is quieter and less cutthroat than Scrabble but rewards clever word editing. The best moves reshape an existing word instead of just adding a new one.
