Travel the Oregon Trail together, though only one of you has to make it.
Who it's for
You grew up with the computer game and want a goofy, bleak co-op card game to share with fellow fans. Best with five or six.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want depth or clever tactics. The BGG community rates it low, and it leans heavily on nostalgia and luck.
Vibe's take
Gallows-humour cooperative card play: you groan at each new calamity, bargain over supplies, and laugh when someone gets another dreaded illness. Light, silly, and not very deep.
The Oregon Trail Card Game is the old computer classic turned into a cooperative card game. Your wagon party travels from Independence, Missouri toward the Willamette Valley, fording rivers and playing supply cards to survive calamities like rattlesnakes, starvation, dead oxen, broken bones, and the famous dysentery. To win, at least one member of the party must reach Oregon alive, so you decide who gets the scarce supplies. It leans hard on nostalgia and dark humour, and the BGG crowd rates it rather modestly, so it works best if you remember the original fondly and want a light, silly bleak-comedy ride rather than a deep strategy game.
