Cards tell you how far to move, and almost every turn can send somebody back to Start.
Who it's for
You want a nostalgic family classic where kids and adults compete on equal footing and nobody is allowed to be too precious about losing. Perfect for a game with grandparents.
Not for you ifβ¦
You dislike getting knocked back through no fault of your own. Hobbyists rate this one low for a reason: luck and take-that decide most games.
Vibe's take
Shouty and mean in a friendly way: you creep towards Home, then someone lands on you and you start over. There is a bit of choice in which pawn to move, but the deck runs the show.
A race of four pawns from Start to Home, in the Pachisi tradition, steered by a deck of cards instead of dice. Each card says how far to move, or does something nasty: swap places with an opponent's pawn, or send one back to Start by landing on it. Slides on the board whisk you ahead if you hit the start of one not in your color, flattening whoever is on it on the way. The 1929 original is a classic of knocking your relatives back to square one, and its rating among hobbyists is blunt about how strategic that is. Treat it as what it is: a mean-spirited family classic with a deck of cards that decides most of the plot.
