Classic Risk dice battles across Middle-earth, with leaders, missions and a One Ring that ticks the game toward its end.
Who it's for
You like Risk and want it with a setting you care about, or you are playing with Tolkien fans who will enjoy commanding Orcs and Elves.
Not for you ifβ¦
You dislike dice-heavy conquest or long sessions. Battles are luck-driven, and in this first edition the map is incomplete without the expansion.
Vibe's take
Familiar dice-and-armies conquest with a clearer sense of direction thanks to missions and the Ring clock. Expect swingy battles, grand plans, and at least one betrayal at the border.
Risk, moved to Middle-earth. Instead of generic empires you command the armies of good or evil across a map of Tolkien's world, rolling dice to take territory the way you always did, with a few extras layered on top: leaders, missions, and sites of power that reward you for holding the right spots. The most clever twist is the One Ring itself, which works as the game's clock β once it leaves the board, the game is over, so you cannot simply turtle forever. If you know the classic, you will feel at home within minutes. If you have fans of the books or films at the table, they will happily argue about who gets to be the Dark Lord. This first edition shows only part of the map unless you add the expansion.
