Drive 1000 kilometres first, while your opponents slap flat tires and speed limits on your car.
Who it's for
You want a classic card game for grandparents, kids and anyone in between, and enjoy a bit of friendly sabotage. A good one for a table of four, ideally as two teams.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want a lot of strategy or a different game each time. The cards decide much, and the loop repeats.
Vibe's take
Chatty and mildly nasty, like a family road trip with sabotage. Luck of the draw drives the cards, but timing safety cards gives the clever player an edge.
Mille Bornes is a classic French card game from 1954 where you race to cover 1000 kilometres. You need a green light to start, then play mileage cards while dumping hazards on your rivals: flat tire, speed limit, accident. They answer with remedies like a spare tire or the end of the limit, and safety cards such as puncture-proof tires protect you for good. You can play alone or in teams of two. It is a road trip with a deck of cards, and the real lesson is that the person who is winning always attracts all the bad luck.
