A secret-cards race to capture island animals before rivals surround them first.
Who it's for
You like predicting what rivals will do and enjoy a mix of hidden plans and map control. Works best with four around the table.
Not for you ifβ¦
You dislike guessing games where the board can wreck your plan. The simultaneous reveals bring some frustration.
Vibe's take
Tense in a quiet way. You commit to a three-card plan in secret, hold your breath on each reveal, and groan when a rival reaches the animal you were circling. Plans are neat, but the others constantly disrupt them.
La Isla sends your team of five scientists to an uncharted island to study animals and score points for it. The board is a ring of oddly shaped tiles around a central tile, with animal tokens sitting on spaces that need two, three or four camps next to them to be captured. Every round you secretly lay out three cards face-down, then everyone reveals the first card at the same time, which creates delicious guessing moments. It is a clever area-majority race with simultaneous action choices, and the animal sets you collect make the scoring feel like a field-biology notebook.
