Mash the lever and make your hippo gobble up more marbles than anyone else.
Who it's for
You are playing with very young children, around four and up, who want to smash a button and laugh. Also good for adults who want a few minutes of silly chaos.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want strategy or quiet. It is loud, there are no decisions, and some marbles will end up under the couch.
Vibe's take
Frantic and loud. Everybody plays at the same time, the marbles go everywhere, and the winner is whoever has the fastest thumb and a bit of luck.
Four hippos with huge appetites sit around a lagoon, and a bunch of marbles roll into the middle. Everyone slams a lever as fast as they can to make their hippo's head dart out and gobble up as many marbles as possible. No turns, no rules to explain, just frantic button-mashing and a lot of rattling plastic. The hippo with the most marbles at the end wins the round. It has been a noisy toddler favorite since 1978, and it works because you can understand it in about two seconds. Adults will find it more fun than expected for ten minutes of chaos, and then very loud for the next ten.
