Draw cards and hope the next one isn't an exploding kitten, in a chaotic cat-themed Russian roulette.
Who it's for
You want a fast, silly card game for a mixed group, including kids around seven, that doesn't need much thinking. Great for a laugh with friends who don't play many games.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want strategy or control. Luck and meanness decide a lot, and some people dislike being knocked out early.
Vibe's take
Loud, chaotic, and funny. Luck and sneaky card plays decide it, and the whole table groans or cheers on every draw.
Exploding Kittens is Russian roulette with cats. You take turns drawing cards until someone pulls an exploding kitten and is out, unless they hold a Defuse card to save themselves. The rest of the deck is full of cards that peek at what's coming, shuffle the pile, make an opponent draw extra cards, or dodge your own draw, so the tension rises as the deck shrinks. It is quick, loud, and driven by luck and mean tricks, with silly cat humor and cartoon art. It's a mass-market hit for a reason: anyone can learn it in a minute, and a round is over in fifteen. Don't expect strategy, but do expect shouting.
