Build a little empire in twenty minutes with armies, cities and a few good cards.
Who it's for
You want a quick, tidy area control game, or a light introduction to the genre without a big rulebook.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want deep empire-building with long-term plans, or very low luck. It is short and the card row decides a lot.
Vibe's take
Fast and snappy: every turn is one choice among a few cards, but those choices ripple through the whole map. Players keep a close eye on who is about to take the lead.
Eight-Minute Empire is empire building on a diet. A small map, six face-up cards, and you pick one each turn, paying a price that depends on how far along the row it sits. Each card gives you an action, such as adding armies, moving across land or sea, or founding a city, and also a resource you collect for points at the end. When the cards run out, you score regions and continents where you hold the majority, plus your resource sets. It is a bite-sized area control game with civilization flavor, and a typical game takes about twenty minutes, so you can fit a conquest between dinner and bedtime.
