A dungeon crawl where heroes must cooperate to survive, then betray each other for the final blow.
Who it's for
Groups of five or six who love dungeon themes and enjoy sly backstabbing. Great if everyone likes trash-talking.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want pure cooperation or dislike kill-stealing and player elimination.
Vibe's take
Raucous and sneaky. The table switches between teamwork and treachery in a heartbeat, and the best moments are the dramatic last-second kill steals.
Cutthroat Caverns is a nine-round dungeon crawl where you must cooperate to survive and betray to win. Each round, the party meets a random encounter, usually a monster worth a prestige value from one to six. Everyone fights it together, but only the player who lands the killing blow gets the prestige, so the game is really about kill stealing. Some rooms are traps with no prestige at all. If the party doesn't survive all nine rooms, nobody wins; if it does, the survivor with the most prestige takes it. Expect lots of jostling for position, humor and friendly backstabbing, best at five or six. It's a bit like an RPG party that hates each other.
