A compact, standalone Carcassonne where you build one walled town instead of a sprawling countryside.

You are hoping for the sprawling open-countryside feel of the original, since this stays contained to one growing town.
Vibe's take
familiar, cozy, puzzly, satisfying, compact
Carcassonne: The City takes the familiar tile-laying formula and shrinks it into a single walled medieval town instead of a sprawling countryside. As the town grows tile by tile, a ring of wooden wall pieces rises around it, and posting your followers as guards on that wall earns points on top of the usual roads, cloisters and city scoring. Slightly tweaked placement rules keep the puzzle feeling fresh even if you know the original inside out, and the finished table centerpiece, walls, towers and all, looks genuinely impressive by the end. It plays fastest and sharpest with two or three, making it a great pick when your usual four-player Carcassonne group shrinks for the evening.
