A giant floor battle where you shoot torpedo discs under toy warships and watch their turrets fly off.
Who it's for
You have floor space, a pair of players with a taste for toy-like gadgets, and a love of 1980s toy-aisle spectacle. Great if you collect vintage games.
Not for you ifβ¦
You have a small apartment or a small table. The board is more than a meter across, and the game is hard to find and fragile with age.
Vibe's take
A big, theatrical, slightly absurd dexterity battle. You plan movement, then crawl around the board lining up shots, and the payoff is a mechanical pop.
A floor game from Milton Bradley's Floor Wars series, so big that it is practically furniture: the box measures 88 by 44 centimeters, and the board needs a floor or an enormous table. Each of you commands four large World War II ship miniatures, a battleship plus three escorts, which you maneuver across the board. Then comes the clever part: a torpedo launcher shaped like a submarine fires discs that glide along the surface, and you aim them at slots along the waterline. A hit trips a rubber-band mechanism that launches part of the ship's superstructure or a gun turret into the air. It is a toy-like naval skirmish for two, with real aiming and plenty of flying plastic.
