Who it's for

You need a game for a mixed group where some people want to compete and others just want to chat. Works well as a team game for big family gatherings or holiday tables.

Not for you if…

You want deep strategy. Your options are limited by the cards in your hand, so a bad draw can stall you no matter how well you read the board.

Vibe's take

Light and chatty, with a steady rhythm of play a card, place a chip, glare at the person who just blocked you. Jacks create sudden swings, and teams make the table loud.

About this game

A board made of two decks' worth of playing cards, laid out in a 10 by 10 grid, and a pile of colored chips. On your turn you play a card from your hand, put a chip on a matching space, and try to line up five in a row, column, or diagonal. The four corners count for everybody. Jacks are where the knives come out: a two-eyed Jack lets you place a chip anywhere, a one-eyed Jack lets you pull an opponent's chip off the board. You can play on your own or in teams, and a team table with up to twelve people is perfectly workable. It is a card game wearing a board game's clothes, with enough blocking to keep everyone muttering at each other.
