About this game
Rurik: Dawn of Kiev puts you in line for a throne left empty when Vladimir the Great dies, and the way you win it is beautifully odd: you openly bid your advisors for actions, and the stronger the advisor, the better the reward, but the later you actually get to act. Weaker advisors jump the queue but bring thinner rewards, so every round becomes a tight puzzle of timing versus power. You build, tax, fight and pursue great deeds to win over the people's hearts, all set in the richly researched world of 11th century Kyivan Rus. It's a meaty euro with real teeth, elegant in concept and merciless in execution.
