A Magic: The Gathering skirmish on a modular hex map, with Planeswalkers, creature squads, and spells.
Who it's for
You like Magic's world and want a miniatures skirmish on the table, not in a deck. Fun for two, and also with teams.
Not for you if…
You want deep strategy or a polished modern ruleset. Reviews are mixed, and the dice can swing fights.
Vibe's take
Tactical and swingy: you shape the map, push your squads forward, and watch dice decide whether the plan works. A lighter, more accessible cousin to a wargame.
Magic: The Gathering – Arena of the Planeswalkers is a miniatures skirmish game that brings the card game's universe to a board. You build the battlefield yourself from modular hex tiles, drop terrain and glyphs, and then each player picks one of five Planeswalkers. You move your figure and your creature squads across the map, cast spells from your hand, roll dice in combat, and try to outmaneuver the others. It is played on the mana-rich world of Shandalar. It feels like a tabletop tactics game with a light touch, aimed at people who know the card game's colors and creatures, though you don't need to be a Magic expert to follow it.
