Climb a 3-D magic hill by landing goblins on top of each other.
Who it's for
Families with children from about eight who like a race with a bit of card planning. Adults do not have to fake enthusiasm, since the climbing puzzle is decent.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want a deep game for adults only, or you expect the chaos of a pure dice race. Luck is mild, so careless play does get punished.
Vibe's take
Playful and a little puzzly. Kids enjoy stacking and clambering up the tiers, while the card choices give adults something to plan around.
Magic Hill is a climbing race for young wizards. Each player controls five goblins on a five-tier, three-dimensional hill, and the goal is to get one of them to the top first. On your turn you play two or three numbered cards: the first picks which goblin moves, the others say how far. Here is the catch: goblins climb only by landing on top of another goblin, so you need friends and enemies to step on. Event tiles can help or hurt, and magic stones let you hold more cards. The 3-D board looks great, and the card choices give older kids a little planning to chew on, while younger ones simply enjoy the climb.
