Bid for building rights, spend resources to construct, and manage your frontier economy over ten rounds.
Who it's for
You enjoy mid-weight Eurogames with auctions and economic planning. Best with four players at the table.
Not for you if…
You dislike bidding or heavy resource juggling, or you want something light and quick.
Vibe's take
Calculating and fairly tense. Every auction forces you to decide how much a building is worth to you, and loans add a nervous edge as the rounds tick down.
Homesteaders is an American-West economic game that blends auctions with resource management. Over ten rounds, you bid for the right to build a certain type of building, then spend resource cubes to put up one of the buildings of that type. Buildings give you income, abilities and points, and some need a worker to run. There are nine different resources to juggle and sell, loans are available if you need cash now, and bonuses at the end reward a tidy settlement. Everything builds toward a final income round and a last chance to trade. It's a mid-weight Eurogame for people who like planning, with the sort of tension that comes from every round's bid.
