Build your own Roman colony on a tile grid while also constructing the emperor's grand forum.
Who it's for
You enjoy heavy Euros with puzzly tile placement and a Roman theme. Good when your group is happy to think for two hours.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want something light, social or quick. Analysis paralysis is real here, and the rulebook demands patience.
Vibe's take
Deliberate and puzzly: you stare at your grid, count the connections, and wonder if one tile placement is worth two turns of planning. Quiet table, loud thoughts.
Emperor Trajan wants a monument for eternity, and you govern one of the Roman cities that will build it. In Forum Trajanum each player runs a Colonia, a city founded by the emperor himself, laying out its buildings on a square grid of tiles while also contributing to the great forum in Rome. The better you balance growing your own town with serving the emperor's project, the closer you come to joining his inner circle. Each player has their own power, so no two colonies play the same way. This is a heavy, brain-twisting tile-laying and city-building game of about two hours, with puzzle-like layouts to optimise.
