Sail out from a shared island, discover new ones and settle them before rival Vikings do.
Who it's for
You like exploration, ships and a growing map. Great at four players who enjoy a bit of racing and raiding.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want heavy strategy or a hands-off game. Raiding and ship battles mean others can disturb your plans.
Vibe's take
Open and adventurous, with the map growing under your hands. Turns are brisk because the choices are clear, and the tension comes from racing for the same islands.
Explorers of the North Sea sets you up as a Viking captain in the last years of the Viking Age, sailing out from a shared home island to find and settle new ones. The board grows as you play: at the start of every turn you place one of your three tiles, revealing fresh islands, then spend up to four actions. You load longships, ferry Vikings and livestock, sink enemy ships, raid, build outposts and tick off objectives. It is an adventurous exploration game with a pick-up-and-deliver heart and a bit of area majority. It also works alone, with a solo mode, though it is liveliest with four around the table, all racing for the same sea.
