A quick Lovecraftian bluffing game where the wrong reveal wakes an elder god and hands the Cultists the win.
Who it's for
Horror fans and social deduction regulars who enjoy reading liars fast and do not need heavy rules to get invested.
Not for you ifβ¦
You need a game with zero player conflict, because half the fun here is convincingly lying to your own team.
Vibe's take
paranoid, sharp, quick, tense, sneaky
Don't Mess with Cthulhu splits the table into secret Investigators and Cultists, and the only way to tell them apart is by watching who is lying about their cards. Everyone starts by declaring how many Elder Signs and Cthulhu symbols they are holding, truthfully or not, then spends four tense rounds using actions to force reveals and hunt for every last Elder Sign before Cthulhu himself gets uncovered. It is pure Lovecraftian bluffing dressed in card-game clothes: no boards, no dice, just cold reads and nerve. Quick to teach, quicker to turn paranoid, and mean enough that a good Cultist can walk away grinning.
