Vibe's take
bluffing metagame, role deduction, city building, social reads, classic design
The original 2000 edition of Citadels that started the hidden-role city-building genre. Draft a secret character each round, use their power to gain gold and build districts, and try to figure out who your opponents chose. The Assassin kills, the Thief steals, the Magician swaps, and the Architect builds double. Eight characters create a bluffing metagame layered on top of city construction. Build eight districts to trigger the endgame. A foundational game that influenced an entire generation of role-selection designs.
