Civil War battles with plastic soldiers, command cards and dice, in rules light enough for a first wargame.
Who it's for
You are curious about historical wargames but want rules that fit on a few pages. A fine pick for two people who like both history and a good tabletop spectacle.
Not for you ifβ¦
You want a detailed simulation or a game for more than two. It is simple by wargame standards and strictly head to head.
Vibe's take
Tense and tactical: your cards decide where you can act, so you improvise around what the hand gives you. Dice add swing, and the sense of a battle swaying back and forth is strong.
Battle Cry is a two-player Civil War wargame with plastic miniatures and modular hex terrain, built for people who want a battle on the table without a thick rulebook. You command infantry, cavalry, artillery and leaders across famous fields such as Bull Run, Shiloh and Antietam. Your hand of command cards says which flank you can order this turn, so you can never do everything you want. Dice settle fights. It was the first game of the Command and Colors system by Richard Borg, and it is the gentle on-ramp for tabletop battles.
